Please answer the following questions in no more than 300 words.
1. Why are you the best candidate for office?
I represent family values, business acumen, and steady, consistent leadership. My father wasn't afraid to roll up his sleeves and work hard to be successful, a man who built his business from the ground up. He taught me that only hard work yields success, never to cut corners. My mother taught me the importance of family values. She taught me to understand that family is first and foremost, to treat people how you would want to be treated, and to always "go for it". My parents instilled these values in me and it is the person I am today. I will never underestimate the importance of this position, I will surround myself with people of integrity and individuals who are professionals in the art of customer service. I will lead by example, and I will be a full time Clerk not afraid to make unpopular decisions. I am a strong social moderate who understands the needs of the working people in this district. I am pro-business and strongly believe in limited government, lower taxes, and doing "more with less". I am a proven leader in managing finances and people. I understand how important family values and character are when considering what voters want in a leader. I am a good husband, a good father, a good friend, a good neighbor, and a good businessman, hence my nickname, The Good O'Malley.
2. If elected or re-elected, what are your top three (3) priorities and why?
My first priority will be to analyze the Courthouse construction issue. I will work closely with the Mayors, the Councils, and the people of this District to come up with a better plan. The user fee idea is simply not an option. I cannot and will not ask the people of this District to pay for a government building to be constructed in the City of Berea. The user fee is an unprecendented means of financing a public building, has never been done in the State of Ohio and will not be done during my tenure as Clerk! We may need more space, but not 40,000 square feet of space and certainly not at the cost of over 10 million dollars. My second priority will be to analyze the staff, exploring the individuals who are employed for whom they know rather than what they know. I think it is of great importance to have the right people in place for the office to run at its peak efficiency. My third priority is to constantly research better, faster, and safer technology. I will work hard to promote e-filing or filing documents from one's home or business to ensure a quicker process and assist those who physically can't visit the courthouse. I will also strive to make this office paperless similar to Garfield Municipal Court, wireless for increased efficiency and enabling our police force to utilize handheld, portable license scanning devices. Thank You.
