The Future Cleveland...2046 Project is a chance for your students to envision their future city. By stimulating your students' limitless vision and inventive nature, they will create a future Cleveland, one that will be their own in 50 years. This site includes instructions you and your students will need to develop a clear and creative picture of Future Cleveland...2046! 


Directions 
Grades 9-12 

1. Use the Teaching Cleveland Lesson Plans and Resource Materials to lead a class discussion about Cleveland...2046. Ask students to consider for the year 2046 such topics as transportation, energy sources, housing, education, government, jobs, technology, infrastructure, the environment, cultural arts and sports. 

1. Brainstorm ideas and write them on the chalkboard or an overhead. Encourage students to take notes. 

You and your students can find additional information to use in this project by conducting various searches on the Internet. 

2. Assign homework that includes reading an article or story about the future. 

3. Create your own time capsule. 


The Bicentennial Legacy Futures Project includes the following four options for student participation:

Option 1 Class Story Board 
Future Cleveland...2046! Class Story Board Project 
On a 28" x 22" poster board a class will answer 3 mandatory and 1 optional questions regarding their vision of Cleveland...2046! In addition, the class will illustrate its vision. 

Option 2 Individual Story Board 
Future Cleveland...2046! Individual Story Board Project 
On a 28" x 22" poster board an individual student will answer one mandatory and one optional question from one of three categories of questions regarding the vision of Cleveland...2046! In addition, the student will illustrate his or her vision. 

Option 3 Individual Computer Story Board 
Future Cleveland...2046! - Individual Computer Disk Story Board Project 
Students can design their vision of Future Cleveland...2046! on a computer. A student will answer one mandatory and one optional question from one of three categories. In addition, the student will illustrate the vision utilizing computer graphics, and print out his or her final project. 

Option 4 Team Computer Competition 
SimCityTM Future Cleveland...2046! Project
Watch for the 1998 SimCityTM Competition!  But meanwhile, practice with your students!

High school students will design what they think Cleveland will look like in the year 2046 by using SimCity 2000TM software. Issues that must be addressed include human, economic, environmental, and political factors.
